Community Housing Needs Survey Closed
The MHC received nearly 1,300 responses to its community housing needs survey, which closed on May 22. General results will be made available on MHC’s website at www.mountainhousingcouncil.org this summer. Thank you to all who took time to complete the survey.
MHC April 28 Council Meeting Recap
At the last Council Quarterly Meeting, partners shared results of their housing initiatives, collaborative efforts, and more. Highlights included:
- The Town of Truckee’s Short-term Rental Workforce Housing Token Program will be accepting program proposals until June 28, 2023. The pilot is the first in the nation and incentivizes the creation of workforce housing units by offering in-kind payment for deed restrictions in the form of “Tokens”. A Token is redeemable for Transient Occupancy Registration Certificates, which are required to short-term rent a property in Truckee. Watch the clip
- Members of the Policy Working Group collaborated to write in changes to SB440, a housing bill introduced by Senator Skinner regarding Regional Housing Finance Authorities. It would authorize two or more local governments to establish a regional housing finance authority to raise, administer, and allocate funding for affordable housing in the jurisdiction of the authority. If amended, these changes would allow Regional Housing Finance Authorities to create their own sub-regional Area Median Income (AMI), which, in our region, could provide assistance to households earning up to 150-160% AMI. - The Dollar Creek Crossing project application has been submitted to Placer County. The current project proposes 80 rental units and 30 for-sale units, and incorporates feedback from community members and partner agencies as well as information gathered from additional studies. HOUSING ACTION
Community Vitality and Economic Health Investment Program Multi-Year Sponsorship Program Application Process is Open
The North Tahoe Community Alliance (NTCA) has launched the first phase of its new Community Vitality and Economic Health Investment Program with a call for Letters of Interest (LOI) for sponsorships requiring a multi-year investment. The Sponsorship and Multi-Year Investment Program will provide up to $7.2 million in funding for priority projects, programs, and services that require ongoing financial support over the next three years, including a focus on housing. Funds will come from Transient Occupancy Tax generated in Eastern Placer County and assessments from the North Lake Tahoe Tourism Business Improvement District (NLT-TBID). Eligible opportunities include workforce housing.
Applicants have until June 15 to complete the LOI, including a summary, budget, matching funds, schedule, and measures of success as defined by the NTCA and implementing agency. The Mountain Housing Council of Tahoe Truckee is a project of the Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation and brings together 29 diverse partners to accelerate solutions to achievable local housing. The MHC’s goal is to build on the needs identified in the Truckee North Tahoe Regional Workforce Housing Needs Assessment and tackle the unique and pressing challenges of housing in the North Tahoe-Truckee region, including availability, variety, and affordability.
